Transcript of the Traditional Hereford Cattle

0:01
these are our Traditional Hereford
0:04
cattle and they are a bit different to
0:07
the normal type of Hereford cow you
0:09
might see going around farms in the uk
0:13
and that’s because these cow genetics
0:15
date back right to the original group of
0:18
Herefords that were produced that’s why
0:20
they’re called Traditional Herefords and
0:22
then they might give them away but they
0:24
do actually come from Hereford which
0:26
isn’t very far away and they have a bit
0:28
of a superpower the superpower is to
0:32
take really rough really manky
0:35
really really really weedy grass and
0:39
turn it into food and into milk so they
0:43
make milk for their calves which you can
0:45
see a few of them back here who grow
0:47
really quickly and then they make meat
0:50
for us to eat they don’t grow quite as
0:52
quickly as a normal Hereford but that’s
0:54
okay because they are much harder and
0:57
much better at making use of what we
0:59
have here in the Sandwell Valley and
1:01
they are actually a rare breed as well
1:03
because most people have added extra
1:05
genetics to make them better to make
1:07
them bigger and stronger but we’ve got
1:09
some of the rarest type on the farm
1:11
which is why we’re so happy to be able
1:13
to look after them um and have them here
1:15
this one is actually a bit of a
1:16
crossbreed it’s not a full Hereford this
1:18
one’s mum is a jersey cow who have you
1:21
scanned one of the other signs you can
1:23
learn all about as well but they do make
1:25
fantastic moms and fantastic foragers
